There is a common misconception that smart buildings operate autonomously. In reality, even the most advanced buildings rely on people to deliver energy efficiency, comfort, and reliable performance. What has changed is the quality of interaction between people and technology. Digital tools, analytics, and AI now enable far better outcomes.
This matters because buildings account for 37% of global carbon emissions, and 80% of the buildings that will exist in 2050 already exist today. Around 70% of lifecycle emissions come from operations, largely driven by HVAC. This places BMS/EMS and the engineers who operate them at the centre of energy, carbon, comfort, and asset performance. In response, we have adopted a people‑led, digitally enabled service model, equipping engineers with data, analytics, and optimisation tools to improve performance and accelerate the path to net zero.
