Australia’s existing building stock presents a critical opportunity to reduce emissions, improve resilience and deliver better outcomes for occupants through deep retrofit, yet sustainability is still too often treated as an add on rather than a core project driver.
This paper presents the deep retrofit of Monash University’s Parkville campus building at 343 Royal Parade as a case study in embedding sustainability from masterplan through to construction. The presentation will outline how HIP V. HYPE assessed the existing building to identify opportunities for reuse, resolve thermal bridging and enhance the building enclosure.
The case study will describe key interventions across the building fabric, services, and site, and show how these were coordinated throughout the design stages.
